José Ignacio Maturana, Maturana Wines and Puente Austral
"The birth of Maturana came in the wake of the great earthquake of February 2010 that completely destroyed our family vineyard’s century-old house of clay and ancient Chilean tile. We decided as a family to shift perspectives and look toward a long-term goal of doing what we love: Making wine of the highest quality and having a direct relationship with the people that enjoy them. In 2011, I took a job making wine in Burgundy during our winter, so I could immerse myself in the the world of small producers making high-end wines. In 2014 a fire at my parents’ house destroyed everything inside it, including several generations’ worth of photos and memories. This further deepened our conviction to maintain this family business. We seek to make wines of exceptional quality, with an individual sense of place, made by hand and with the closest attention to detail. There are no recipes; only the passion to create unique wines moves us."
